Nate B. Jones on AI Agents & MCP
An AI agent takes a job and works it through: it uses tools, reaches apps through connections such as MCP, and reports back with what it did. As of July 2026, Nate B. Jones builds multi-agent systems like an org chart, with one strong model writing specs and ruling on disputes, cheaper models doing the work, and a check that runs on every task.

Questions
What is the difference between API and MCP?
In May 2026, Nate described MCP as the protocol an agent uses to discover and invoke the systems where your work lives, including internal APIs. Before MCP, each integration was custom glue, with tool definitions, authentication, parameter schemas and error handling written from scratch. MCP standardizes that layer, so new capabilities compose without every agent platform rebuilding every connector.
Does ChatGPT use MCP?
In Nate's March 2026 Open Brain build, yes. He lists ChatGPT with Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code as tools that can call the same memory through an MCP server, so a search from ChatGPT returns the same result as one from Claude.
Is Model Context Protocol outdated?
Nate doesn't call it outdated. In April 2026 he said MCP is spreading very fast, and he named the speed at which enterprise vendors ship MCP servers as one of two signals to watch, since Anthropic's agent strategy depends on that ecosystem.
